Standard 1: Content Knowledge

1. Describe your two evidences: What are they? In what context were they created and/or used? The first artifact that I have provided for Standard One: Content Knowledge, is a science lesson plan created during Content Block. This lesson was developed with another student for ED 448: Methods and Materials for Teaching Science. The objective of this lesson was for the students to understand the reason for plants needing sufficient amounts of food, water, space, and sunlight. The lesson involved the students acting as the plants in order to discover if they indeed had a sufficient amount of food, water, space, and sunlight. The standard addressed throughout the lesson was Alabama Course of Study for Science standard 7: describe the life cycle of plants, including seed, seed germination, growth, and reproduction. Also describing how plants occupy space and use light, nutrients, water, and air to survive.
The second artifact that I have attached for Standard One is a social studies and science unit on preparing for natural disasters. This unit was created and implemented during my internship in a third grade classroom at Forest Oaks Elementary School and took place over a five day period. The main standard …show more content…
This plan was intended to teach students about plant’s needs after they have planted seeds and they have sprouted. Based on my knowledge of science, student’s need to know the life cycle of a plant and the needs as it grows before studying the plant itself. This lesson includes an interactive activity in order for the students to have a closer look as to why plants need specific amounts of food, water, space, and sunlight.
