Contemporary Nutrition Review: 24-Hour Recall Food Group Intakes

After a review of my 24-hour recall food group intakes. I noticed that I ingest a high amount of sodium during my average day. The most problematic food group that I have eaten within the past few days would have to be grain. I usually start my mornings off my eating a small pre packaged bowl of apple-flavored oatmeal, which contains about 11% of my daily sodium value. Aside from that, I also ate 2 tamales when I got home; unfortunately I looked up the nutritional value for the tamales after I had already eaten them and found out that each one may contain up to 794mg of sodium each, which although it is still considered to be within the recommended sodium intake, it is still more than what I would have liked to consume. I believe that every nutrient that can assist with the treatment of a disease is something worth looking into. B Vitamins have been known to lower heart disease (the number 1 killer of older men in the United States) as well as diabetes and obesity. Many people do not consider the fact that these are all preventable diseases that can be easily taken care of with the right amount of vitamins. According to the New England Journal of Medicine mentioned that the theories of whether B vitamins would serve for a better use in the human body. “Folic acid and vitamins B6 and B12 lower homocysteine levels” and continued to state that they had calculated if the supplementation reduced the risk of major cardiovascular events in patients with vascular disease.
