Most of today’s theistic religions are great examples of impure religion. These religions are not interested in discovering truths about things we do not know because they think they already have the answers to most of life’s deepest mysteries. They sometimes even work to obscure or suppress truths that have been determined by pure science because the truths contradict their beliefs. For example, Charles Darwin’s theory of Natural Selection is still not taught in taught in some states in America because it contradicts the beliefs of those who follow religions like Christianity or Islam. Impure religions work to reduce feelings of awe and wonder toward ultimate mysteries by claiming that they are not actually mysteries. Why are we here? “To worship God.” How was the universe made? “God made it from nothing in 6 days.” Why would God create the entire universe and all of life just to have us worship him and tell him about how great he is? “Blasphemy!” These religions do not care for that which we do not know and sometimes even try to slow down our progress because they fear that we will determine truths that will create doubt in people’s minds about their
