Yes, the background section did in fact summarize the relevant research about this topic. Does it make a clear case for why the research is important? The research does clearly state why the research was important. The study could be compared to other studies about the relationship between coffee consumption and incidence of diabetes in women.

What strengths and limitations do they note?
Strengths: they noted was the fact that … the population what dropped was identical to those that remained in the study.
Limitations: they were only able to examine 65% of the study population through the 18years of study. The death of the participant was not linked to coffee consumption therefore they were not special. There were no data on whether or not the participants changed the amount of coffee the drink over the period of the study. Women who develop diabetes were lost over the period of this study was lost
