Do we actually have control over what we consume? Our diet is a very important part of our lives in fact we depend on it for survival. An individual 's responsibility for their food choices is usually perceived in a black or white scenario, but I believe that it is a gray subject. People should take responsibility for what they are putting into their bodies, but the government should also enforce more laws against misleading or deceiving products on the market. Just a decade ago anybody can walk into a grocery store and instantly recognize food but tragically nowadays most people can 't tell what real food is anymore. Fast foods is now a big part of the American culture and it has become trendy. Junk food and fast foods have been proven countless times to be dangerious, because it can cause health issues. In “Escape from the Western Diet,” author Michael Pollan states, “ Is your meat from an animal that consumed a diet of various industrial waste products, antibiotics, and hormones still a food?” (438) . The growing amount of cancer, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, and infinite others have all been linked to fast foods. In “Food as a Thought: Resisting the Moralization of Eating,” Mary Maxfield writes, “ We are a nation stricken by heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.” (443) The dangers of fast food and rising number in statistics is getting out of hand in america due to the irresponsible parents, teenagers, and young adults, but they are not to fully blame because there’s almost never a healthy meal in sight. Most people on the other side of this argument or individuals responsibility side don’t realize that a healthy meal is hard to come by these days. It’s much more convenient and faster to pick up a Big Mac or a Whopper than spending time searching for a salad. In “Don’t Blame the Eater,” David Zinczenko makes a joke on how if you drive down the block you will see hundreds of fast food restaurants but if you drive back up that block you probably won 't be able to buy any fruits.
