Consulting occurs in a hierarchical relationship between the supervisor and the supervisee (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2012). The supervisor and supervisee will work together to solve problems and provide indirect benefits to clients (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2012). There are four characteristics of consulting, which are expertise, capability, complementary, and the need for consultation (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2012).
Consulting Insights
After reviewing consulting and the various models and types, I have realized the importance of confidentiality and power. Confidentiality is the right for clients to have privacy (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2012). All information disclosed needs to be discussed and understood by clients before consulted (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2012). As a future counselor, it is my duty to be constantly aware of my client’s confidential rights. The terms of confidentiality will be covered in the beginning and throughout the counseling sessions. Power is an aspect of consulting that holds a lot of strength. In the collaboration model, the consultant will work as a facilitator (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2012). The consultant will give advice, provide feedback, make suggestions, and help find solutions (Capuzzi & Stauffer, 2012). If I were the supervisor, I will be able to give assistance to my supervisee when needed. I would be able to collaborate with my supervisee and offer beneficial value to their clients. Being a consultant is a enormous responsibility I desire to take on in my
