Assignment 1

Task 1 – describe the factors that influence the design process
Budget
The budget of the client can influence the design process as it limits how big the project will be. The budget also affects what type of materials can be used for the build and the land that it can be built on. Before the design process the client has quotations from others so they can have an idea of what can be built and where it can be built with the money provided. If a quotation is not made then this can affect the design as if the amount of money needed exceeds the amount given then things such as types of materials and their sizes will have to be looked over again.
Design Change
If the client wants to change parts of the design whilst in construction then it will cost a lot of money as it means they would have to restart the whole design process. This will cause the project to take longer and will most likely exceed the budget of the whole project. Changing the design may also mean hiring more people which in term means spending more money. The architect is responsible for producing the design of the building and what materials the building is going to be made of. The architect must have specific set of skills to both satisfy the client’s needs and also to create the best design possible, visually and technically. This design will have to be sustainable and environmentally friendly. They must be able to translate the clients brief to the design as best as possible. They must also be able to communicate with the other members of the design team so that they can all understand the client’s needs. They must also know legislations such as the health and safety legislation that may affect the design of the building. They must also be able to understand reporting methods and also be able to communicate with the client and other members of the
