Construction Science Personal Statement

My desire to pursue a career in construction science started at a very young age. I did not grow up like most of my peers who might have been playing with friends all day long or spent all the night gaming. This is due to my dad, who wanted to expose me to the real world at an early age. People might not consider it a good deed, but I am glad that my dad raised me the way he did. I owe my desire to pursue my dreams in construction science.
I was born in Mexico City, Mexico where I lived for a year coming to the United States. The reason we came to the United States is because my dad accumulated a large amount debt trying to pay for him college education that he was not able to finish. I was dead set on the University of Houston all of high school, but working with my dad I was exposed to many people with degrees in my desired area of study. The superintendents that I would speak all spoke inspiring words that I are a big reason why I am at this point. My views on the University of Houston soon changed when I noticed that all of the superintendents I knew went to Texas A&M University. I began to do some research and saw than A&M was one of the best in Texas to attend. However, being classified as international student my tuition would be much higher than the usual rate. I was trying to think of ways on how to go to college and help my parents not spend a huge amount of money as well. I was stuck in between Texas A&M and the University of Houston. Since I couldn’t make my mind in high school I decided to attend community college for my first two years. At the same time money was an issue. I wanted the best education that I could get, but I also did not want to make my parents go bankrupt. I started talking to my parents about it and we decided to talk to my dad’s accountant. My dad’s accountant, Eduardo, graduated from the University of Texas and he did not speak well of Texas A&M and he tried to convince to attend the University of Texas. However, he told me that at this present time it matters where you graduate from, thus attending the best possible university is a must. My dad would tell me that I shouldn’t worry how much it is going to cost and that the only thing mattered is that I obtained a good college education. After some more conversations with my parents I decided to attend Texas A&M, not only because it’s a good school, also because I love all the traditions and the aggie spirit that everyone
