Summary: Chapter eight is all about constructed response assessments. These types of assessments are completion, short answer, and essay. Completion assessments are incomplete sentences with one or two blanks and students must fill in the missing answer. Short-answer items are an assessment in which the student is given a question, and they must answer in several words or sentences. Completion and short answer questions are good way to measuring a student knowledge because these types of answers can be completed quickly. Essay items are more complex because the student has to organize their thoughts into completed sentences and paragraphs. In essay items students may be asked why they agree with or disagree with something or idea. The types of essay responses are the restricted response essay item, which is a short essay and extended response essay is a longer and more complex essay. There is a good variety of questions. These questions limit students from guessing the answer. The student really would need to understand the food web to answer these questions. The questions are clear and precise. To reduce the time on the test you can either have students circle or check the correct answer. Writing answers down may take up to much time, especially if it is suppose be a short assessment.
