Without Consumption Buick. What do think of when you hear Buick? Did you know it was a car brand? If so did you imagine an “old man car” just now? If so, I’d say that’s quite a normal reaction and Buick is aware of that. The predominate amount of Buick owners are typically people older with the average of an owner sitting at 57 years-old. But they are on their way to soon shake that image off. My essay is about Buick’s recent changes that have been made and how i see that, that connects to the theory of conspicuous consumption. They 've taken many angles at it as well. Personally they caught my attention through commercials I enjoy watching to see what they 'll do next to change our perception of their brand. My first personal favorites has to be when the grandmas arguing that the car he son just bought was no a Buick because it doesn 't look like the ones she remembers implying they aren 't the same old person car people think. The second one was where the hot guy driving by in a Buick and ,two very young pretty girls stair as he drives by, the first girl says my grandpa used to drive a Buick and the other girl replies thats “well that was no grandpa” again imply they 're a total transformed car nothing like before. Both commercials insinuating that Buick is no longer the old classic Buick its something all new and fresher than ever before you wont even recognizes it as a Buick. They put emphasis on the fact that there car have built in wifi which of course is targeted towards younger adults rather than older people who are typical more technologically impaired. For me that was a pretty catchy feature that means no more radio commercial and unlimited pandora on the way to school. Anything from changing the way the cars look, to adding more desired technology, and even using commercials as a way to desperately try and change your perception of them. I’d have to say the commercials have been the biggest factor for me they get my attention and admit to once being an old man car, but are showing that they are now striving to be as young and hip as possible. I believe their effort is paying off slowly but surely and that the key to their success in this process is to become a car that people envy when they see someone else drive by in it causing them desire to own one as
