1. Level of Spelling Development
Strategies: Consonant Bland and Consonant Digraph Activity Folders, Word Wall Daniella’s letters indicate that she is at the within-word pattern spelling stage of development. Daniella is starting to experiment with consonant digraphs and consonant blends. Daniella is decoding words by analogy. She used the letter “f” to spelling the word elephant (elefant). To help Daniella with consonant blends and digraphs, she is going to use activity folders. In the consonant digraph folder, Daniella will have images of items on cards that are spelled with a consonant digraph. Daniella will use a dry erase marker to spell out each image. There will be a check sheet in an envelope so that she will be able to self-check herself once finished. The same will be done for the consonant blend folder. Handwriting Legibility
Strategies: Paragraph Paper, Spacer Daniella’s letters indicated that she is working on writing letters the correct sizes. Her letters show that she used adequate sized letters majority of the time, while some letters where large. In Daniella’s letter, she had the letter “g” where it touched the top of the line, and the bottom of the “g” touched the bottom line instead of hooking under it. To help Daniella improve her letter size, I would have her write on paragraph paper. The lined paper will help Daniella to form her letters the correct sizes after writing on it consistently and correctly.
The paragraph paper will also help Daniella to correct her letter and word spacing. Throughout Daniella’s letters, her words were jumbled on top of one another and letter so close it was hard to read. I would have Daniella use a popsicle stick as a word spacer and then transition her to using her finger and the visually spacing her words correctly. Daniella will be able to use her finger or popsicle stick to check her spacing to make sure her words are not
