Essay C.
Considering your lifetime goals, discuss how your current and future academic and extra-curricular activities might help you achieve your goals. Although I am not the first generation to go to college I am the first to pursue a traditional four year university. My parents had humble begins growing up in the impoverished islands of the Philippines experiencing its indifferent government notoriously known for corruption, homelessness, and danger. When the Philippines became too dangerous the best solution was to migrate to America. My dad arrived in the states poor and could only afford to a bike, riding an hour to and from school. His educational career stopped with an associate’s degree in general studies from a local community

In fact, my ability to swim barely reaches mediocre; however I never give up when adversity kicks in or when things get hard. A lot of my friends quit athletics their 2nd year so that they can take up other electives and double up on foreign languages. I chose to dedicate my time and use two of my blocks for swimming, because I know that the experience can help me understand and build upon my principles. I have come to understand team work and dedication, day in and day out. My attitude and confidence continues to mature and with each passing day I continue to believe in myself more and more. I always find myself striving to be better, pushing myself past my boundaries only to find that a person’s mind is limitless. My unquenchable desire to succeed has helped me notice that this positive energy fuels the team just as much as it fuels me. The enthusiasm spreads like a wild fire to my team mates who always have my back. With each passing day I feel better about diving into the pool and finishing a race because I have the undying support of my teammates and coaches. Their presence cannot help but cause a surge of strength to keep moving

To Be or Not to Be Educated Colleges and universities, or more importantly an educational degree in the liberal arts, in today’s society is an important necessity that can help determine students’ goals and future in life. Maybe even calling these institutions or the educational system life itself can be called an understatement. However, there is no doubt that for some people in any part of the world they would risk everything they have in order to receive high-level education and use it to perform better for their future and live a comfortable lifestyle at the same time. But for some people even though they would like to receive a formal educational degree they cannot afford it thus possibly failing in earning a livelihood. There are however,…

I decided to take action: every day at practice I would try to encourage all of my teammates, despite the different disciplines, even if it was just a simple “good job, man!”, or “keep it up!”. For the warm up each day, I would run with some of the slower people accordingly heartening them, making sure they didn’t feel inadequate compared to track runners who were faster. Little by little, other members of my team replicated my action. Consequently, by the middle of the season, everyone inspirited one another and supported each other. The focus of our pre-meet speeches, which reinforced this newfound reassurance, was family.…

As a person who is going to be a first generation college student, my journey towards obtaining a higher education has been challenging to say the least. Neither my father or mother finished high school, but when I was very young, my mother, who struggled with alcoholism, left my father and I, and he has raised me by himself ever since. Over the course of my childhood, my father did everything in his power to make ends meet through working long hours and multiple jobs so that I could have the opportunities that he never had. Because of this, at an early age I learned to do without certain things and when I was old enough, I got a job of my own to help provide for myself and my father. As a result of these things, sometimes it was difficult to do well in school and other activities, but I always found a way to succeed through diligence and time management skills.…

The main reason why I think that HACC is the best choice for me is because of the cost. The rates per credit are around $250 and that is for in-state residents. The total cost for a commuter would be around $13,750 for a student who is full time, which means they are taking 12 credits per term (Stager). This price of $13,750 includes the price of books, supplies, food, and transportation and it is an average price for all HACC students (HACC.edu). I think that I could easily cut some of the cost by trying to buy my books online for a cheaper price or even eating at home to save a lot of money.…

Describe your educational and career goals and explain what or who has inspired or helped shape these goals. During my high school years, I recall working in the fields during vacation breaks with my mother harvesting tomatoes, picking up cherries, and pruning grape vines. Fascinating as it sounds, I was always intrigued to understand why fruits and vegetables spoil or often cause food poising in humans. Although, when I questioned my mother why these fruits spoil, she responded it was due to "little bugs," which was not a sufficient response.…

I have played sports my entire life, nonetheless I am by no means a natural athlete. Frankly I have never been described as fast, strong, or tall; but I confess, I still have a row of trophies watching over the progress of my athletic career. My collection of overseers started very small, but I have traded time, sweat, tears, and even blood for these golden men. Now my collection stands tall and each golden man, on top of his own pedestal, is a testament to my own tenacity. Let me accentuate, the equation to my success was never natural talent, but my commitment to my teammates as well as myself.…

My nerves were on edge, my adrenaline was pumping; I watched our third leg trailing our school’s rival, Hastings, the anchor was up next for our 400 freestyle relay and the only thing that stood in the way of winning or losing the race was me. Immediately I dove in; the sight of my opponent's feet next to me made me swim harder and faster. Coming into the fourth and last lap I used everything that I had left in me to finish strong. Right at that moment, I saw an opportunity and took advantage of it, I noticed my opponent was closing in too early. Sprinting to the wall as fast as I can, I glanced at the time score and saw a bright florescent number one next to my lane, at that moment I was at loss of words.…
