Americans dressed, lived, and worked in a traditional style of life. In the 1920s, the conservative style of life was slowly fading away. Americans became rebellious in numerous activities in their day-to-day lives. Females began living a risky life. Women began to fade away from their norm ways of life. They were not living the traditional, stay at home life. They began to express themselves in a wild manner. Also, women stopped wearing traditional, conservative outfits. Women were commonly referred to as flappers, which were women who changed the meaning and role of women during this era. Women wore clothing more convenient for activity and stopped wearing long skirts and corsets. Women and men stopped experiencing a conservative marriage. Divorce was common during this time, which the rate doubled in the 1920s. As time continues, the conservative way of life occurs once again. In the 1950’s, women began living their conservative lifestyles. Men also continued their traditional way of life. They were the breadwinners while women were back as stay at home mothers.
