The QSEN initiative was first introduced during my basic nursing training as a means to summarize the quality and safety material presented throughout the program. It had not been fully integrated into the curriculum, due to its newness. However, after becoming more largely adopted among nursing schools, it became required knowledge for graduation. 2.…
Nurses are constantly struggling with increased patients’ acuity, documentation that is becoming very detailed and time consuming, and increased demands from the management while trying to uphold professional and caring relationships with patients (Cara, 2003). What makes nursing a profession that is different from any other is the approach that allows nurses to preserve and practice the art of caring. Watson’s theory is essential in understanding that “…the traditional medical model can potentially reduce the human to body systems, or even further to individual cells or atoms, in order to cure a disease. The nursing model and medical model are complimentary to but different from one another and that both perspectives are valuable to the health of society (Ryan,…

After a traumatic event, the need for psychosocial support is indispensible. In the article written by Lena Junehag, Kenneth Asplund, and Marianne Svedlund, the need for psychosocial support after an acute myocardial infarction is supported. A support system for the AMI recovery patients is documented throughout the article with different variations of support. A problem within the healthcare system was found, which brings the need for improvement within the follow up care for recovering AMI patients.…
Mercy College defines integrity as, “Moral wholeness, soundness, uprightness, honesty and sincerity as the basis of trustworthiness.” I personally feel that integrity encompasses not only all of these characteristics, but also the ability to apply these characteristics in one’s everyday life. Someone who displays true integrity does not act honestly and sincerely just in easy situations, but also in the most difficult. Integrity is a value everyone should strive to perfect both professionally and personally.…
Research, Roles, and Values in Nursing Nurses perform many roles as they provide care on any given day. Nurses are educators, leaders, managers, providers of care, and members of a profession. They use the latest research and evidence-based practice to provide care to their patients. Nursing theories are also incorporated into the daily routines of nursing. A theory is “a method of perceiving reality and mapping the complex processes of human action and interaction that affect nursing care” (Houser, 2012, p. 135).…
According to the MSN program conceptual framework, a nurse detective uses clinical imagination along with science to evaluate deviations from the expected to prevent or control adverse reactions (WGU, 2013) To apply the role of “Nurse as Detective” I will apply the model element safety and quality. Working as a Clinical Coordinator on an Orthopedic unit I recognize how vital safety and quality are for patient care. Utilizing this element will reduce risks to providers, patients, and families by using analysis of effectiveness of systems that are in place, as well as individual performances. This can be achieved simply by applying the nursing process.…
While practicing medicine each member of the team must know, and understand their specific roles in order for the best possible outcome. The purpose of this post is to discuss the role that a nurse plays in a patient’s care. The American Nursing Association (2010) is an organization that has defined the nurse’s scope of practice, and holds nurses to the highest standards of practice; with these high expectations, they also encourage a safe, and healthy workplace. The Nursing scope of practice states that a nurse must practice within the limitations of their education, and training, although this may be expanded depending on certification’s, area of specialty, and the population that is being worked with. Who, What, When, Where, why, and how can be used to help guide this scope.…
Latinos are the fastest growing population in the United States. It is important to know Latino population is comprised of many nationalities includes Mexico, Central America, South American, and islands in the gulf. “The Hispanic population reached a new high of 55.4 million in 2014 (or 17.4% of the total U.S. population), an increase of 1.2 million (2.1%) from the year before” (Krogstad, & Lopez, 2016). As the Latino population increase and becomes older there will be need to better understand this population concerning medical and health. Nurse must be prepared and know as much as they can about Latino populations.…
Personal values effect how nurses practice on daily basis. Every nurse has different core values but there are fundamentals such as empathy, caring, honesty, and altruism. In this paper, I will identify my core values, share my beliefs, values, and assumptions about metaparadigm. I will also discuss how my core values effect my current practice and share examples of real life situations. As a nursing student originally from an different country, I believe it is fundamental to embrace diversity.…
According to Potter, Perry, Stockert, and Hall (2017) the nursing process (NP) is a five-step clinical decision-making approach, whose purpose is to diagnose and treat human responses to actual and potential health problems. Nurses utilize a wholistic approach to care by providing each patient under their care with individualized care that focuses on the patient’s unique needs with the intention of solving the multiple problems that each patient faces. This paper will provide a description as well as highlight the importance of each stage of the NP. The first stage of the NP is the assessment stage. Potter and Perry et al (2017) define assessment as the deliberate and systematic collection of information about a patient to determine his or…
Furthermore, caring is the primary focus and without caring there will be no degree of healing. American Nurses Association (2010) describes caring as continuously showing empathy and compassion for the patient. All aspects of caring delivered will heighten the ability of a nurse to perform effectively in providing optimum care in any situation. Nurses are the essential link in providing best care for the patient and assuring that the health care team adheres to the professional standards of practice. Therefore, providing a safe environment will help safeguard the patient from any harm.…
After reviewing many nursing theorist before writing this paper, I have concluded that my practice of nursing encompasses all fourteen points of her theory. The patient must be seen as a whole and not as a sum of the parts. If one is to view the patient as parts, part of the clinical picture may be missed. I view my care as assisting the patient in activities that they would normally do for themselves if they were able. I foster my patients to gain their independence as quickly and safely as possible.…
The Role of Nursing It is said that the nursing profession is one of the most respected and trusted careers there are. From the beginning, a nurse’s role was to nurture and mend those that are sick, frail and even through the process of end of life, but it doesn’t just stop there. Nursing has come a long way and entails many more aspects than they are even given credit for. A nurse wears many hats and is required to perform duties outside of healing obvious wounds.…
