Although violence is very prevalent in our society, it is looked down upon by those in charge and is most often punishable. In certain situations where you believe that you are in danger, is it justifiable to use violence in order to protect yourself as well as those who are close to you? The United States government would say that it is okay in certain situations to use violence to protect yourself as long as it is self-defense and you believe that your life is in danger. “The Castle Doctrine is a common law principle stating that an individual has no duty to retreat when in his or her home prior to using reasonable force, including deadly force, to protect themselves and their home.” This is just one instance in which you are able to use deadly force on someone if you believe that your life is in danger. There are instances where you are able to use a conceal carried handgun to protect yourself from a threat out in public, but even then you can still get charged with manslaughter or other minor charges. “Justifiable homicides, or the lawful killing of a felonious person in the midst of committing their crimes, only occur a few hundred times per year.
