Right or wrong is constantly argued in morals, yet in the end it is always the right thing that hurts less people in the long run. In the novel Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, it is demonstrated that the actions of the battle school were not justified. This is displayed through the mental trauma students suffered and the extinction of an innocent species. Firstly, the actions of the battle school were wrong because the students suffered too much mental trauma. The mental trauma students suffer was exemplified when Anderson stated “‘But Ender won't leave it alone. Like Pinual. Everybody looks like Pinual at one time or another. But he's the only one who killed himself. (87)’” This is evidence that the battle school treated children in such …show more content…
The whole basis of the battle school was to create soldiers and commanders that could defeat the Buggers when they attacked humanity in the Third Invasion. However, in a conversation between Graff and Ender it was revealed "So the whole war is because we can't talk to each other?… If they were going to leave us alone, they could have done it a hundred years ago, before the First Invasion… When it comes down to it, though, the real decision is inevitable: if one of us has to be destroyed, let's make damn sure we're the ones alive at the end (295)”. Clearly, the people running battle school knew that the main issue between the Buggers and Humans was communication, but instead of trying to resolve this issue, they decided to destroy the species. This act was purely unethical because it showed a malicious intent from the battle school and represented all their wrongdoings. This malevolent act was once again displayed when the author revealed "We're not waiting for the Third Invasion. We are the Third Invasion. We're attacking them. (291)”. Without a doubt, the Buggers were not planning to attack Earth for a third time, but instead humans commenced the invasion. The actions of the battle school tricking Ender into killing the Bugger species when they did not want to attack in the first place is the epitome of the wrongdoings of the battle school. A whole species

At Battle School, Ender thrived in the environment that Colonel Graff threw him in. As soon as Ender was given his own army he saw that he had been given the collective runts of the litter. In a school where physical prowess and experience meant everything to the instructors and students, he had been given the youngest, smallest students in the school. Despite these apparent setbacks, Ender molded his army into one that went undefeated. The other army leaders had it drilled into their heads that, during matches in the Battle Room, they had to use precise mass formations to accomplish their objectives.…

Sara Day says, “both adults and children cross the lines between moral and immoral behaviour” (Day). Children and adults do many things that would not be acceptable in this society. For example, when Ender is confronted by Stilson and his gang, he attacks Stilson violently and sends him to the emergency room, and he is congratulated for his skills by Colonel Graff. His cruelty toward Stilson is ignored and his ability to beat up his bully was given priority. As John Kessel says, “rightness or wrongness of an act inheres in the actor's motives, not in the act itself, or in its results” (Kessel).…

Military is an important concept in the novel because military is what will stop the Buggers. Without Buggers, the world of Ender’s Game will be less focused on military practices, but humans will still think that they are the superior race. With the Bugger attack, humans used military as a way of building a defense in order to stop another attack from happening. Humans knew then that they were a superior race, so they developed child soldiers and trained them to fight against the Buggers. Without the Buggers, humans would believe they are the superior race and upgrading military would not be needed.…

Ender’s mother was shocked that an officer was proud of the decision Ender made that got him invited to the battle school because Graff was basically promoting violence to Ender, saying it is ok to use which made the novel disturbing. Also, the violence while in battle school made the children being in the characters more disturbing because of the actions they took. Ender and Bonzo were fighting in the bathroom because Bonzo wanted to kill him, “Ender whirled in time to see Bonzo stagger backward, his nose bleeding, gasping from surprise and pain”(211). The quote shows how Ender was defending himself from Bonzo, who wanted to kill him. The character should not have been a child and shown that violence was the problem solver.…

This really long quote basically describes the entire ending of the book. After Ender wiped out the entire bugger race he was very upset at what he just did because he was feeling guilty that he had no authority to kill the peaceful buggers, this also ties in with Enders emotional changes through the novel. But anyways since he felt guilty he went searching in a cave where it was told that the queen bugger lived as he entered the cave he saw one last bugger which survived the attack and Ender being the person who can communicate to the buggers spoke to it and Ender promised that bugger that he would take the little white cocoon and colonize the bugger race on a far away world without anyone knowing. But at the same time Peter was terrorizing the world back on earth and the most important person in the world to Ender was his sister Valentine so…
