Jefferson argued for a capitalist society while Hamilton augured for that of an agricultural society. Jefferson of course becomes the victor in the model that America creates for itself. Although there were a lot of flaws in Jefferson’s capitalist or industrial society it did change the face of America. New Technology was invented but slavery did not end, women rights were still zero to none, and immigrants along with natives were at the bottom although not as low as the slaves. The Amistad case established nothing more than the fact that the Spanish were wrong for taking the Africans illegally across international waters after it had been outlawed. These Africans might have been set free but the slaves in America were not set free. It could be argued that people’s moral Conesus had been changed but what actions were taken? The Dread Scott case even establish the fact that nothing over slavery was changing. The famous saying “born a slave, always a slave” derived from this case. With this came the fugitive slave act, stating that if a slave escapes to another state and they are captured they are to be taken back to their slave owner. The manifest Destiny stated that it was there right to possess the whole continent from sea to shining sea because God has instructed us to do so. Americas reoccurring case of cognitive dissonance seem to also drive the design of what they believed freedom to be. They claim to be a democratic nation but if democracy is for the people and by the people why are there only certain people given that democratic right? If 1% of America controls 47% of the wealth, there has to be a something not adding up with this idea that America is summed up in democracy. Class conflict as stated in Marxism is what our country has been built upon. It was shown over and over in American history. It has continued to be shown in modern day with things such as the Black lives matter foundation. Problems in America today seem to continue to come back from our past and we continue the cycle to push it to the next generation making it there problem. In the first unit we said that the “miracle of the U.S. is that there is a U.S.” The U.S. has come a long way and has made messes that they either cleaned up or swept under the rug.
