I once worked at a school that operated year-round. The goal in mind was to create positivity and stability for students who have experienced trauma at a young age. and although year-round schools are beneficial as far as creating a safe space for children in a more structured environment, I believe it has its advantages and disadvantages. I believe that it is just as important to have breaks throughout the year for your mental and physical health. It’s also beneficial to working parents because when summer approaches, they don’t have to worry about the financial burden of childcare or other travel expenses due to everyone traveling to different designations. Year-round education was also created for low-income students who are at risk of losing information retained throughout the year during the long summer break. It’s a way for students and staff to continue to grow and improve their learning. Although year-round education can have many benefits, there are many cons of year-round schooling as well. Warner explains, “year-round education can pose a challenge for working parents who need to arrange childcare during the breaks that don’t align with their work schedules.” (Andrew). Wealthier parents can afford babysitters and put their kids in to different summer camp programs during the summer break, while many low-income parents aren’t able to afford childcare programs, forcing parents to leave their child home alone while they go to
