95% of animals used in experiments are not protected by the Animal Welfare Act. These animals are more likely to be abused because they have no protection. 26 million animals are used every year in the US for commercial and scientific testing. According to the Humane Society International, animals that are experimented on are subject to force feeding, inhalation, food and water deprivation, lengthened periods of physical restraint, and infliction of burns or other wounds to test their healing process. The scientists experimenting also inflict pain to see how it affects the animals and test remedies and sometimes kill these animals in ways that are too horrific to describe.
An example is the tests on rabbits to see what causes irritation. These rabbits have their eyes held open for days by clips to prevent the product from being washed away during the duration of the test.

Experimenting with animals has contributed to saving many lives and people say that there is no alternative way to test products. Scientists say that if drugs were not tested on animals then many would have died from rabies and many other diseases. The Animal Welfare Act does protect the animals a lot. Testing animals it does not affect them much because their life cycles are much shorter than ours. They say that animals do not have rights so it is acceptable to test on them. Large biomedical and health organizations endorse animal testing. Some of the health and cosmetic products must be tested on animals to ensure the product and human safety. Very few animals are used for testing compared to how many we eat. I am Morgan LaLonde and I believe that animals should not be used for testing due to their
