Cons For Legalizing Marijuana

Improved Essays
I feel like the discussion about marijuana has been an ongoing debate for many years, and though it has its pros and cons I feel like that marijuana should be legalized. The reasoning behind my decision is because I feel like other drugs that are legal in the United States such as smoking cigarettes and drinking alcohol carries the same side effects as smoking/ingesting marijuana. Pros for legalizing marijuana would be it would boost the economy through revenue according to the book. Another pro, provided by the book, would be the fact that police/law enforcement could deal with other crimes besides booking people who illegally use marijuana. The drug has also been shown to have medicinal properties in alleviating the pain and side effects

As discussed above, all available evidence indicates that criminalization of cannabis use is ineffective, costly, and constitutes poor public policy. Globally, there is growing debate about the efficacy of criminalizing drugs such as cannabis, in particular that the health, social, economic and criminal harms of this approach outweighs any intended benefits (Chandra, 2014).
