PROFANE LANGUAGE
Profane language is used in verbal and written communication; it manifests in the following forms as swearing, obscenity, slur, dirty and offensive language as in relation to the acceptable or appropriate form of common communication. It is used among almost all classes of people for different purposes and resulting in different outcomes. The J. Watson & A. Hill, Dictionary of media and communication studies, portrays a speech by J.D. Rothwell relaying the rationale for using profane language as attention seeking, degrading others, evoking conflicts, a form of healing and affiliation to a group (Profane language, 2015). Profane language can be used as people express their affiliation to a group like in the instance of African

The originality of the word nigger will be expounded on bringing out its detrimental effects that have lingered around up to this present day. A favourable and respectful interaction environment can be attained without the use of slur.
The nigger word was used to refer to the black race in 1619 as Africans set foot on the North American territory. The nigger term was used to refer to the Africans and keep them in the bottom class as slaves by their masters in the superior class (Asim, 2007). The term was also used to refer to the African Americans as half humans, hence representing the negative traits of being lazy, unintelligent and dishonest (Rehman, 2015). The group using a slur or profane word towards another group intends to offend them and keep them in the lower status. The connotation of the nigger term remains up to this present day even though such racial slurs have been abolished in a currently democratic country; the United States of America. The African Americans have adopted a similar form of the word "nigga" for use among themselves to portray survival and affiliation to the group of black race. They dared not to use the original term Nigger as they would

It still carries its implication once referenced to any member of the marginalised group of African Americans. The group inflicting the slur on a marginalised group gets the gratification. However, it serves no good purpose for the marginalised group. Attempts have been made to diffuse its detrimental effects such as some African Americans have adopted the word nigga to deviate from the derogatory original term nigger. African Americans use the word nigga to express friendship and solidarity. It can still be used interracially among friends in closed quarters. The self-labelling of African Americans with the term nigga help them see themselves as equal to the other outside groups (Rehman, 2015). The impact of the use of humour in drama and acting cannot be ignored in the reduction of psychological damage. Acting can further serve as an awareness forum for the stereotype who enjoy using the slur to inflict psychological harm on others. Individuals from the marginalised group have successfully ignored the effects of the nigger term and exploited their potential to get to higher class

The word itself most people would think about as the snack you would have with cheese, but this is to describe “poor rural whites in the south”.…

Furthermore, through this lost sensitivity of the N-word is that we're managing to redirect the interpretation of this word from unpleasant to a common and even uplifting term . But even so, others continue to believe the N-word still has little to no difference in it definition and shouldn’t be used due to its shameful history, this counterargument is nothing more than an attempt to elude at the problematic issues in Latinos of an underlying misidentification or rejection of their identity as Cepeda suggests “Many folks in our parents’ generation have rejected their blackness [...] but those generations more informed by hip-hop are embracing their Afro-Latino identity and evolving past our own self hatred” (141). That being the case, this doesn’t grant just anyone with the right of dropping the N-word casually and believing that a confrontation will never arise at some point-in-time due to this, because of course that would be naive in repercussion. Lastly, there must be knowledge and understanding if ever using the N-word and shouldn’t just be used in a ‘caricaturist quality’ or faddish manner’ but instead to teach and understand vital Latino roots that have been lost and are now being admonished through the…

Nearly a third of the English words said today come from Latin words or are derivatives of Latin roots. For instance, the reason the word procrastinate means to defer an action, is because “pro” means for, and “cras” is the Latin word for tomorrow. Literally, procrastinate, means “for tomorrow.” Many will argue that the most offensive word in the english language is the “n-word”, which actually comes from a latin word.…

If the word was meant to offend people, the author would not have made the one character Jim, who is of African American descent, use the word to describe a friend. For example, in the book it says “Dey’s mighty good to me, dese niggers is, en whatever I wants ‘m to do fur me, I doan’ have to ast ‘m twice, honey.” (190-191). This quote proves that the word nigger is not meant to be offensive; it is meant to be used as a descriptive word that shows someone’s race. The word nigger has gained a different type of meaning as years have gone on, and that is why people interpret this word as repulsive.…

This is apparent in the way that the stable hand, Crooks, is mentioned. The characters describe him as being a “nigger” as if it’s just a regular word used to describe someone rather than it being the offensive term it is today (Steinbeck, P.10). Neither George nor Candy say the word with any apparent malice and that is what truly exemplified the racist sentiments of the time. Even without being personally hateful against blacks, during the time use of the derogatory term was just natural. Crooks was also segregated on the farm from the rest of the workers.…

Even though some people believe that the different spellings constitute a different meaning, both ‘nigger’ and ‘nigga’ are "trigger" words. Nigger has a well-defined historical context (especially in the U.S). It’s often used where it arouse more negative responses than positive ones. Trigger words in effect trigger emotional responses if not used by a member of the specified group. For example if nigga really was a revolutionized word with a different meaning, why is it that some black people are uncomfortable and find it offensive when other races use it.…

It may seem strange that a community would be comfortable using a slang term that has contributed to so much pain and trouble, but similarly to the way lesbian, gay, Bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) peoples reclaimed the word queer in the nineteen eighties, many African Americans have adopted the use of nigger. This adoption of the term stems from the way it was used in the past. The term African American has only come into use within the last half century; nigger was used not just to bully but as a non-racist descriptive label in much the same way African American or black is used today (Allan, 2015). By the middle of the twentieth century, nigger had ceased to be appropriate within colloquial language due to the growing opposition to segregation and racism within both white and black communities. The term Colored soon took the place of nigger or Negro in the descriptive sense (Middleton, 2001).…
