There aren’t two people who are alike, even twins who are born and raised in the same environment, can have a different reaction when reacting to a similar situation. Everyone in life goes through certain events in life where each one reacts differently and no one can say “I would have reacted the same way”. In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, where several sons avenged their fathers’ murder, but their madness and horrible decisions takes numbers of death on everyone. There is a lot of connections in this play that can be made throughout certain characters. One of the connections in this plays is between the characters Hamlet and Laertes. Hamlet and Laertes were born in era where royalty is an advantage to live a better life. Hamlet and Laertes were born in royalty families, Laertes being the son of the trusted counselor of King Hamlet, and Hamlet being the son of King Hamlet ex-king of Denmark. Both Hamlet and Laertes had advantages in their lives one being receiving great education due to their high social status. They were both attending schools out of Denmark and both would rather want to stay at school than be in Denmark. Hamlet and Laertes don’t only have similar life style and similar lives, but they both went through a tragic death in their lives. Hamlet and Laertes both experienced their fathers’ death, their death was a result of political conflict. Throughout the play the audience gets to know more about two characters, Hamlet is a person of more thought and less action, as for Laertes was a man of little though and quick action. When Hamlet’s father appeared to Hamlet in the form of a ghost and he told Hamlet that his uncle Claudius killed him, it took Hamlet sometime to process what he just experienced because he couldn’t believe what just happened. Hamlet began to question the ghost’s truthfulness and motives. Hamlet still wanted more proof before proceeding on his revenge. Only until Hamlet was was confirmed of Claudius’s guilt was when he was read to take action. Hamlet is a person that hesitates and over thinks everything causing him to procrastinate his actions towards his fathers death revenge. Hamlet began to contemplate toward how to kill his Claudius and it took him towards the ending of the play to kill his uncle. In the other hand Laertes takes his revenge for his father death more personal and he doesn’t worry about the consequences that can happen as long as he revenges his father’s death.
