Equality and Katniss: Both Similar and Different The author of Anthem and the author of The Hunger Games trilogy never shook hands, but the extensive similarities and sizeable differences between Katniss and Equality are clear. Similarities and differences possess the ability to be unified with each other to recognize strong characters and heroes throughout literatures; however, they can also be put up against each other as opposing forces in constant battle. It is important to take a step back and remember that both similarities and differences should be looked at and admired, as it is what makes each character in a story unique from the others.…

Suzanne Collins has attracted millions with her novel The Hunger Games. Full of twists and turns, loss and love, self-discovery, compassion, bravery and the extremely controlling and vile Capital, this novel is one that keeps you entertained and at the edge of your seat until the very last page. When you really analyze this book in depth, it becomes more and more apparent that it is actually a mirror image of our society today. Valerie Frankel, a scholarly writer, agrees by stating, “Panem with its Hunger Games begins to mirror another world ─ ours. This isn’t just a dystopian future; it’s the dystopia of present day America” (49).…

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire follows Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mallark succeeding their victory in the 74th annual Hunger Games. The two must now begin a Victor’s tour, travelling to each district expressing their gratitude and apology for those lost in the games. Although Katniss secretly hopes to spike a rebellion against the Capitol, President Snow initiates a 75th Hunger Games in which Katniss and Peeta are involuntarily entered. When comparing the universes in which Anne of Green Gables and The Hunger Games exist, it is easy to see that the former takes place in a smaller, much more contained environment, whereas the latter inhabits a more expansive and far-reaching world. To get the ball rolling, great authors use their own personal concerns and sympathy for people who are hurt or struggling in tough situations in society to make impacts on readers. In very debateable situations that occur in America, authors usually give their viewpoints on the situation at hand. Especially in today's world, an author has to be on one side or another. If he or she is neutral, or does not favor any side, the reader will consider the author defending the enemy or the bad side of things. As the online website Forbes puts it “People don’t necessarily want to know how smart you are, but rather who you are, what you stand for, and what you believe is most important.…
