CONJOINT SESSION NOTE
SUBJECTIVE/STATUS: The therapist facilitated a conjoint session with the client and her mother, who attended in person. The client mother was very happy because the client move to tier two today and she was doing well during the week. The client was happy as well that her mother brought the books that she likes to read. The client stated, “I would like to talk about how my home in Mexico different from here in California.” The client shared that she feels that her biological family in Mexico does not have bad experiences with life so they see the life in an easy way. The client stated, "No one over there tells me that you are depressed person, or I need therapy, or I need to go to an inpatient facility, they do not shame me or making me angry like my mother here.” The client stated, “I hope that my mother understands now what is the difference between my home in Mexico and my home in California.” The mother reported that she still feels connected to the client and she feels that she can live together as a family with unconditional love. The client asked her mother to listen to her because she wants to feel that she is listened, understood, and accepted. The client reported that her mother has always assumptions about her behavior and she needs to ask the client about what she means when she says something or to act in an exact way. The therapist empathized with the client's emotions. The therapist asked the client's mother if she agreed with the client's response and if she had anything to add. The therapist validated the client's feelings and pointed out the importance of the positive communication with her mother. Then, the therapist asked the client to share when her depression and homesickness feelings started. The therapist inquired about the mother's feelings and her thoughts about the therapy topics, which are anger management, time management, and communication skills. The therapist redirected the client when she went off topic or neglected to listen to her mother. The therapist helped the client to label her feelings and tell her expectations using the role model and shaping techniques.
PLAN/PROGRESS: 1.1 Client will build trust and develop the rapport with the therapist. The client will identify triggers for Major Depressive Disorder (isolation, negative self-talk, family conflict, past trauma, low self-esteem, and interpersonal relationships) from 0x per day in 1-2x per day. The therapist will assist the client in developing an awareness of his automatic thoughts that reflect a Major Depressive Disorder schema, challenging Major Depressive Disorder thinking patterns, and replacing them with reality-based
