Left side ventricle CHF have common respiratory signs are increased rate of breathing and also in increase of working to breath such as jugular venous distention. Rales or crackles can also occur because of the buildup of fluid in the lungs that can be heard when the patient inhales and exhales. When there’s fluid in the lungs it can also cause cyanosis which will then develop as a late sign of pulmonary edema. Left sided can cause a backwards failure of the atrium and ventricles that will which causes the patient to become dyspnea on exertion. When a patient lies down they will become breathless and feel like they are drowning which is called orthopnea. Also another symptom of left sided can cause paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea which is counted by how many number of pillows it takes for the patient to sleep comfortably and cause scare them because they cough to the point where they will wake up from a deep sleep.
Right sided CHF signs and symptoms for physically can cause peripheral edema which is fluid into the lower extremities causing ankle swelling and foot. Nocturia which means frequent urination which can occur when the fluid is brought back into the bloodstream while lying supine at night. The doctor will also check the weight from time to time to see if the fluid in the body is building up to make the patient gain weight. If the heart failure gets to severe then they will proceed to immediate surgery.
