Conformity Vs Nonconformism

It was once stated, “Only dead fish go with the flow” this quote shows the conformity in society by revealing that when they follow others they can be identified as being dead because they can’t be separated by the pull of society. It may feel as being a nonconformist can be a bad thing because so many few people are nonconformists when any are conformists. We all feel the need to fit into society when others around us are trying also trying to fit in so that influences you to be a conformist. Although conformity is an important thing in life because it benefits people to know right from wrong, like following the rules, nonconformity allows you to be happy and express your thoughts and feelings.

In the article “The Sociology of Leopard Man”, Feys describes how Leopard Man does the things he does to be happy, he states “He lives in solitude. Tom leopard now in his 60’s, spends most of his days in a small cabin in the Scottish wilderness. He ventures into civilization on;y when he needs food and supplies (he wears clothes to cover up his colorful body).” This quote states that nonconformists are people expressing themselves and their opinions against conformist. Tom Leopard is just trying to put his real self out there and he expresses it by taking action. This quote also is stating that Tom Leopard isn’t being a nonconformist because he craves attention. It directly states that he lives in solitude and only wants to be around society when he dearly needs to. Another example nonconformity is stated in The pedestrian. A quote from the article is “In ten years of walking by night or day, for thousands of miles, he had never met another person walking by, not one in all that time.” This quote explains and makes you think about nonconformity because the key detail is when they state that “he had never met another person walking, not one in all that time”, which means that he is alone and no one is surrounding him. If this was conformity there wouldn’t just be him walking for ten
