Conformity vs. Individuality: Lost In Society!

Conformity is a behavior in accordance with socially accepted conventions or standards, meaning people follow what others do to blend in with the society around them. With that being said, people following what others do is unnecessary. Why would people change their image or even their personality to fit in with the crowd?
When it comes to the topic of conformity, most of us will concur that it will take your true self, the real you. The real question is this is….Do you conform? While some are persuaded that conformity is the world’s most treacherous mental illness, others believe maverick and nonconformity is examined as an illness. My aspect on this topic is people should conform at times, because if you fully commit to being a conformist, you are

If everyone was the same, earth would be transformed into a living disaster, no new ideas, new inventions, nor new discoveries. I also have lived conformity, I was always the girl who was different, I cared what others said about me, until I was told “live life to the fullest- be creative and express yourself in everything you do, because life is too short to be a follower.” Even to this day, people exclude me from activities or don’t include in because I am different. In rare occasions I become an outsider, when it’s a material that I do not understand as much. When that person or group does not include me in it makes me feel like I’m missing out on the fun or maybe they just don’t like me, and this left me with an unpleasant feeling. But when I see other people get treated like this, it gets to me because I’ve been in that same situation as where I try to include them in little by little by asking simple questions or for their personal

Hipster Cows (An Analysis of Conformity Through Colin Wilson's Quote) Emerson once said, "To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. " Man will never be able to fully eradicate conformity, because it is human nature to a certain degree, but one can prevent the unnecessary conformity. The brave few who follow the path less traveled often finds it a rewarding experience. If one can escape the repertoire of life expectations, their roadmap of vitality will be as colorful as Neapolitan ice cream.…

Long ago, I had moved to a new school and none of the popular kids accepted me because I have always been myself, which I suppose is different than most individuals. But I was happy being the person I was meant to be. I always thought, this is the person the universe wanted me to be, and I have never changed for anyone since then, and today have many wonderful friends who appreciate me. This is prime to realize because had I conformed to what the popular kids wanted me to be, I would have never been the unique individual with the wonderful friends I have today. I have a burning passion for skating, and the skating culture is very distinct on the way they dress and behave, but I had always stuck to what made me feel comfortable, and I personally feel a connection to the world being who I naturally am.…

I decided long ago I would avoid conforming in order to be true to the natural person I am. Over time, my happiness, and self confidence had increased. Life began to have a deeper meaning to it, because I saw things my way, and did not conform to the way society usually thinks. This is significant because if I were to conform, I would no longer be a unique individual. I do not want to be similar to everybody else, because it takes away from standing out to the universe.…

In the film “Dead Poet Society” Mr. Keating has his students standing on top of his desk look around the classroom (Dead Poet Society). This scene illustrates that we need to look at things in different perspectives. If an individual always follow one direction then we can never learn anything new. Another example to identify conformity is in the article “ The Sociology of Leopard Man”, Fey stated “Seceding from society, as Leopard Man has done, would certainly free us from social pressures” (Fey1). This quote demonstrates that we should look up to Leopard Man and what he’s done and not feel the pressure when being non-conformist in front of…

Humans are social creatures. It is clear from any study of sociology, history, or basically any other discipline regarding or involving the human race that humans have a tendency toward grouping up. With the idea of the group comes the opposing ideals of conformity and nonconformity. There are as many stances on the virtues of either side as there are people involved in the study. Some would tout conformity as an ideal; a staple of a stable, peaceful, efficient community.…

In this day and age, conformity is what decides who people are and what their future will look like. Normally when people think of conformity, the negative connotations associated with the word come to mind. For instance, teens doing drugs or drinking alcohol because friends or siblings tell them it’s okay to do so. However, I don’t think conformity is always a bad thing, and I first hand experienced the positive effects of conforming.…

Nonconformity is not always a good thing, and conformity is not always bad either, although they do both have their own down falls.…

I have been conforming towards other people since the day I understood the concepts of how to be your own person; in other words, having your own style. I have two older siblings; a brother and a sister, and my sister is only a year older than I am. This tempted me to want to be just like her, which she did not enjoy as much as I did. I would try to be friends with her friends and of course at younger ages, we did not get along, so she would tend to push me out of her life. This was the most horrible feeling when I was younger, but today I thank her for it due to the fact that she pushed me to be my own person.…
