To show this, while sitting with the family and talking about their situation, it is stated that, “But how can it be Gregor? If it were, he would’ve realized a long time ago that it is impossible for human beings to live with a creature like that, and he would’ve left on his own accord” (Kafka paragraph 85). Grete, Gregor's sister, wants Gregor to leave the apartment which the family shared because that is what would make her happy. The night after hearing this, Gregor decided to honor Grete’s wishes and, “His head sank all the way down, and from his nostrils came his last feeble breath” (Kafka paragraph 89). Gregor wanted to put his sister, and his family out of their miseries, so he conforms to the wishes of his family in order to make their lives easier and in turn more pleasurable. By dying, Gregor granted his families wishes, and now, although being dead, he was able to cooperate with his family and please them by taking a burden away from their lives. In addition, in the story Bartleby a similar situation occurs, the lawyer cooperates with his employees, other than Bartleby, in order to create a better working environment for his company which is what they all desired. For instance, in the poem, while describing their rendition of a perfect man, it is stated that “and had everything necessary to be the modern man” (Auden line 20). The state has a hankering for people who do not stand out but who are modern and blend in with the rest of society.By creating a model such as this, citizens will contend to their government's wishes and conform themselves to be similar to the model. To add to this point, it is also stated in the poem, “For his Union reports that he paid his dues” (Auden line 10). The state wants everyone to aspire to be like this model, to fit in and do everything as they are told. By being an authority figure, people who see this model are going to have the desires to please the state, and view this model as a standard that all citizens should resemble because that is what would please them. In another poem Do not go gentle into that good night, it is stated, “Though wise men in their end know dark is right” (Thomas line 4). Although in other lines of this poem it suggests that the men should fight stand out from the group and not conform to the wishes of society but, the men know that in the end, the best thing to do is to conform to what

Do you, as an individual, conform to society or do you like to show people that you are different than most others? Out of the seven billion people who live in this world, most would say they conform to society, which is very natural. Humans are social beings and conforming to society is one way that we show each other that we are like them. Sometimes we feel obligated to conform by the people we respect, look up to, or people who are in higher positions than us. In the article, “The Sociology of Leopard Man”, Logan Feyes states that, “conformity can be seen as the world’s most common but dangerous psychological disorder.”…

Society pushes us to be “normal”, and if we don’t fit the norm, we are ridiculed. We as a culture are pushed in a certain direction and forced to try and fit certain molds and we can be changed and can change ourselves to fit into society. A good example of being pushed to fit a mold is the military. Gwynne Dyer talks about the military creating a group identity in her article “Anybody’s Son Will…

Washington, an African-American educator once stated, “in America, through pressure of conformity, there is freedom of choice, but nothing to choose from.” In other words, the world gives infinite choices to make but yet, we decide to make the choices society prefers us to make. In the article, “The Sociology of Leopard Man” Tom Leppard made the wise decision to make the choices he desired to perform instead of conforming. According to dictionary definition, social conformity can be defined as an agreement between an individual's behavior and a group's standards or expectations. One should not change their looks, beliefs, or behavior to fit in with society because it destroys one’s uniqueness and humans are naturally meant to be themselves.…

In the article “The Sociology of Leopard Man” Fey describe what it means to be a human when he says,” To be human is to be an individual human, with individual tastes, talents, values, and dreams that are distinct from these of others” (Fey 1). This illustrates when an individual conforms to be more like others, he or she loses an important part of his or her identity. People today fear that society won’t accept them who they are so that’s why some of them end up with Psychological disorder. Most people find it easier to rely on others and to be a social conformist rather than being a social non-conformist. Being a social conformist is easier because you do not have to explain why you want to be different or why you refuse to give in to peer pressure. People tend to find it easier to deal with peer pressure if they follow the crowd. When undergoing peer pressure, a lot of the time it is easier to do what others do instead of having to explain yourself. In Lord of the Flies, at first everyone followed Ralph because he was the one who blew the conch and no one seemed to care about Jack’s opinion, so Jack ended following Ralph as well.…
