Conformity, in its truest form, comes from social media; from Hollywood and the creators of these lovely outlets. Social media has skyrocketed in the late 2000’s thanks to a huge advancement in technology. While I enjoy Twitter, Snapchat, and Instagram, I can also admit that it is the root for most of our problems. Social media has opened a door to unlimited access of communication to every corner of the world. In the beginning, intentions for social media were good, but quickly turned bad. Thanks to social media all teenagers are more susceptible to bullying. In an article I read (Why Do Teens Bully? By Melinda Hutchings), the author interviewed a teen named Tom. You can now anonymously bully someone, and have zero consequences. Peer pressure is very prominent and people don’t even realize it. You talked about the education system and how the smartest guy picks what kids should learn and how we’re just being taught to conform to society but, while our education system has its problems, it’s helpful. And you’re absolutely wrong. We’re not being conformed to anything. The only thing that would possibly come close to conformity in schools would be when teachers teach us how to function properly in society. That’s not conformity that’s helpful. The world has rules and they’re there for a reason. The rules need to be followed and there’s nothing wrong with that. You yourself are being absolutely hypocritical. Telling us that we shouldn’t conform yet telling us your opinions and America and politics and other things, knowing that kids my age really don’t know how to think for themselves nor form an opinion because they haven’t been taught. Maybe you should start teaching kids how to think for themselves instead of telling them that there’s this conformity in America and the education system, because I don’t think so. I don’t see what you see. I shouldn’t have to conform to how you or others feel in order to write an essay or do a debate.
