The school only teaches about the town itself and beliefs nothing is beyond the town. The school basketball team never loses, books don’t have any words in them and mothers stay home to cook and clean while fathers go out and work. In Pleasantville sometimes conformity is good as there is no crime in the town and everybody is super nice. Other things people in Pleasantville have conformed to are not so great. The fact that everyday these people are breathing and alive but their not truly experiencing life itself. The town has no idea about the rest of the world and the history behind it. Everyone in Pleasantville has conformed to have the same personality and they accept that everyone is the same. They believe women should cook and clean while men work to earn the money. Growing up the kids never get to learn from their mistakes or anything the real world has to offer. Pleasantville shows how conformity is not always a good thing and how the world shouldn't push people to conform to be the same because in reality no one would truly enjoy themselves …show more content…
As some characters change, books begin having words and the town begins getting color it’s very hard for a lot of people to accept the changes. The “colored’ folks are excluded from many building in the town and have picked on by many people. Bud and Big Bob are sentenced to court because they painted an amazing picture in beautiful colors, it was almost like they painted propaganda. During the court session Bud explains why people are changing into to color, he says one person changes when they let their self feel an emotion they haven’t before or when they try something new. Mary Sue/Jennifer changed when she studied instead of going out, now for Mary Sue that wasn't anything new but for Jennifer it was. In the real world Jennifer was a bad girl and didn't believe in studying so when she studied in Pleasantville instead of going out she was being responsible with school which wasn't something she was use too. Bud/David also changed because of David personal when he was courageous and protected his mom. George Parker changed when he felt the love for his wife by looking at her and realizing how much he missed her while they were in the courtroom. Bill Johnson changed when he started to paint and the most important one was when Bill Johnson changed into color because of his hate he felt when Bud was explaining and showing how people can change to color. Bud showed the whole courtroom how/why changing
