Mead has been walking for many years and counting, but he’s been walking all alone while looking at other people having fun and getting together for family, friendships, or relationships. The story explained Leonard as “the passing of a lone figure.”(Bradbury ) Also, it says, “The street was silent and long and empty, with only his shadow moving like the shadow of a hawk in midcountry.”(Bradbury ) Mead was forced to be alone because nobody else wanted to walk with him. If the police caught someone walking around in the night, they usually might think that they were a drunkard or mentally troubled. Apparently, at the end of the story, Leonard was taken to “Psychiatric Centre for Regressive Tendencies.” The police then said, ”’Now if you had a wife to give you an alibi’, the iron voice said. ‘But-;” This would mentally push Leonard into embarrassment and/or shame that he doesn't have a wife or children. Leonard, unfortunately, doesn’t have anybody to help him from the police, so he was taken to a psychiatric without an argue. That’s how people would want to nonconform themselves from the world, but it will not work well because they cannot live safely without the help of others.
