It isn’t always good to conform because you wouldn’t be as unique or as happy if you had the same feelings, beliefs, and actions as any other person. In “The Pedestrian” when Leonard Mead tells the police officer/car that his profession was writing the officer implied that he had no profession. This statement shows that one person could think one thing while another person could think otherwise. Also just because something is considered odd or out of the ordinary it doesn't always mean that it isn’t right. Another example on why conformity isn’t always good is in the article “The Sociology of Leopard Man” when Leppard said “As far as i’m concerned, if there is a paradise on Earth, I’m in it.…

Most people find it easier to rely on others and to be a social conformist rather than being a social non-conformist. Being a social conformist is easier because you do not have to explain why you want to be different or why you refuse to give in to peer pressure. People tend to find it easier to deal with peer pressure if they follow the crowd. When undergoing peer pressure, a lot of the time it is easier to do what others do instead of having to explain yourself. In Lord of the Flies, at first everyone followed Ralph because he was the one who blew the conch and no one seemed to care about Jack’s opinion, so Jack ended following Ralph as well.…
