I myself am not Asian, and our families are culturally very different. My boyfriend is very American, he as "conformed" to the American lifestyle. But when we are with his parents, I do things very differently. When I come over to their house it is expected that we take off our shoes, and we say hello. My boyfriend says hello first, and then I say hello. When we are eating, we allow my boyfriends father to sit first, and then show us where to sit (we are creatures of habit, so we pretty much sit at the same place), we do our absolute best to finish everything on our plate. By doing all of these things when we are at their home it allows me to show them that I love and respect them. …show more content…

In society, more often than not, individuals are expected to uphold a certain appearance and image of themselves; men are supposed to act masculine, while women are pressured to act in a feminine manner. These expectations extend to social class systems as well; the rich and upper middle class families are always expected to accomplish greatness, while lower class families are not believed to achieve anything of value in their lifetime. If these societal values are challenged, the offender will be outcasted from society. Which eventually causes individuals to give up on identity formation and conform to societal expectations. Similarly, Karen Ho and Susan Faludi, authors of “Biographies of Hegemony” and “The Naked Citadel”, discuss the formation…

Conformity/ Stereotyping: Boys and Girls Toys Methodology that I would use to investigate gender differences focusing on conformity in children would be an experimental approach. Focusing on how children associate themselves and their identity by recording the descriptions children give of toys they like. In Blakemore & Centers (2005) they focused on how adults associate certain toys as being appropriate for girls or boys based on typical gender stereotyping. Boy toys were usually seen as violent; as for girls’ toys were associated with nurturing (Blakemore & Centers, 2005).…
