After sinking my teeth into this enjoyable literary text and analyzing the characters more closely, I am left with a key life lesson that’s worth mentioning. When people disagree and have conflicting opinions, whether they are family members, friends, or even total strangers, it’s usually best to be open and honest about it rather than letting anger get the best of us. If Izzy and her mom had just taken a few moments (and several deep breaths) to lay all their thoughts about moving for the summer out on the table instead of letting frustration consume them, chances are the tension they both felt towards each other could have been easily avoided. And who knows, they may have even found some common ground to stand on - together. The only question that remains dancing in my head is this: if these characters had just remained calm, communicated a bit better, and actually listened to each other’s feelings, could the text have had a more uplifting ending in which the characters were united instead of
