Conflicting Ideas About Sexuality And Gender Identity

Decent Essays
Reading the survey, I ended up actually doing the survey. Because I wanted to see where my thoughts and views honesty were. The questions really made me think about my values and what I see as normally. I know its about being heterosexual and straight but all I could think about is the opposite and asking the questions with the word homosexual rather than heterosexual. And how that I have really conflicting ideas about sexuality and gender identification. I believe that people should be able to love who they are and be comfortable in their skin. So if that means to change from male to female or female to male then that's okay. If that means that you need to date the same sex to feel loved then do so. I am every liberal when it comes to people

Intersex issues have gained increasing attention in academic, medical, and legal circles over the past two decades. At the forefront of the discussion is the issue of gender assignment surgery, including ethical questions regarding whether gender assignment surgery is appropriate for infants who cannot consent. In some cases, surgical responses are necessary to address intersex conditions that threaten the life of the child, such as with cloacal exstrophy and salt-losing CAH. In those cases, it would be impractical for a physician to wait till the infant can provide consent to proceed with treatment.…

I thought this test was a lot different than the other ones; it made me feel like the researchers were almost setting us up to come out as biased against Gay people. Associating negative words with homosexuality is a way of skewing the results, in my opinion. I am proud of the results I got because I do not know very many gay or lesbian people and I never really grew up having any friends come out. I can count the number of gay people I personally know on one hand. I learned from this that if any of my friends do come out to me that I should ideally be very accepting and treat them the same as I treat my straight friends.…

“Intersex is a group of conditions where there is a discrepancy between the external genitals and the internal genitals (the testes and ovaries)” (Kaneshiro, 2) Intersexuallity is a essence of being born with a mixture of both male and female biological characteristics, which are caused by an error in the sex chromosomes. Since both sides are present, it is very difficult for physicians to deal with issues involving the assignment of a specific sex or any consultations revolving around the issue. Intersexuality has been a major topic in medicine through history as has been subjected to a lot of controversy and different procedures. Even in the present day and age there are a lot of differences between how its viewed in distinct cultures and…

I believe that if a broader set of questions were asked there would have been more outliers and more to explain about the survey. This survey impacted me because it really showed me how so many people in the world are alike. There are so many duplicates of people and not many people stand out anymore. A lot of people answered the same answers to different questions. Then again it could just be the age group that was taking the survey.…

For both theories, I will provide an overview and also present how they related to my own development of these identities. Social-Cognitive Theory of Gender Identity…

between two people consists of many gender roles that are in place to reinforce heterosexuality. The society continues to naturalize heterosexuality, where rules such as, “who pays for the date or wedding rehearsal dinner to who leads while dancing, drives the car, cooks dinner or initiates sex” (Ingraham 304) are constantly in place. As a result, because nobody ever questions these rules, people are raised into believing that based on their gender, they have a specific role to fulfil and people who go against these norms are typically judged and looked at as “deviant” and “abnormal.” Moreover, women do not begin life wanting to become a bride or with a desire to date and men do not exit their mother’s “womb knowing they would one day need…

I would consider my sexuality a privilege. I don’t have to jump through hoops and deal with other judgements when I want to get married or when I want to go out on a date. When I go out with my boyfriend I don’t get judged for holding his hand, kissing him, hugging him, or anything else couples do. Someone who is a homosexual woman may not have this luxury. When a homosexual couple are walking around town or the mall people assume they are platonic friends when that is not the case.…

Butler (2009) comforts homophobic regulatory oppression by reconsideration of gender and sexuality. Butler (1993) points out that identity classifications are used by oppressive regulatory systems.…

In America’s eyes people that are transgender, or have problems with their gender identity do not meet the standards of others around them. They are seen as weird, abnormal, or even immoral. Some heterosexuals are shunning their families, friends, and kids because they do not understand the lifestyle that homosexuals live. For example, some hereosexuals do not belive that homosexuals have the right to marry and be who they choose just because “they” think it is wrong. In addition, the idea of gender identity disorder and transgender is misunderstood by a large group of hetersexuals.…
