Conflict Theory In Today's Society

Decent Essays
Hey Haleigh, I really enjoyed reading your post. I agree with Karl Marx, that society is determined by economic organization, particularly the ownership of property. In today's society, people think power is everything. People with power, think they can get alway with anything. In my opinion, it should not matter if you are rich or poor, everyone should be treated equally. At the end of the day, everyone is the same from each other. I agree with the conflict theory, it is a constant struggle for people to be treated equally. I hope you continue to do well in this

Another theory that connects with gentrification and social issues amongst homeless people is the social conflict theory. The social conflict theory was invented by Karl Marx. Marx explanation for this theory was the following “the causes and consequences of class conflict between the owners of the means of production and the capitalists and the working class and the poor” (Social Conflict Theory, 2016, pg. 1). This basically means Marx’s (2016) focused was on the different resources amounts withheld between lower social classes and higher social classes. This theory connection for gentrification is illustrated amongst the lower class residents who are forced to move somewhere else due to their low economic status.…

Thomas Paine makes it seem as if the poor and rich are considered equals by comparing them to opposite class stereotypes, “Poor are not oppressed, the rich are not privileged.” As of now, we know that the poor are indeed oppressed and the rich are privileged which can be seen in the ever-growing inequality wealth gap. Approximately one in six families in America are living in food insecurity, which is condition where families lack of access, at times, to enough food for all household members. These families are not being helped by the government, in fact they are pushed to areas with other families that have similar problems, resulting in a lower income and a lower state tax, which directly correlates to the education of children. With lower taxes comes the inability for states and towns to provide adequate education, which can be seen in many areas in America including parts of the Bronx, Brooklyn, Compton and many other impoverished areas.…

This, of course, is a very valid argument, why should the rich get more privileges than the poor? Well, the answer is simple. The rich have all the power and influence. If the rich aren't happy, you’re going to have a hard time keeping society in check. By giving the rich what they want…

Yes, I believe Realistic Conflict Theory definitely relate to the United States general population. The general population is classified into different classes according, especially to one’s race, nationality, sexual orientation and beliefs. The idea of belonging to a certain group evokes people to separate themselves from other group in order to preserve their individual group. For ex, the increased population of Hispanic (Mexican) immigrants threatens American born citizens, because American born citizens dislike the idea of Hispanic immigrants taking over their jobs, education, healthcare and other resources. Even though US is a melting pot, the concept of being over populated by a certain group like this increases prejudice against the…

Social turmoil throughout the late twentieth century fueled theoretical perspectives of conflict theorists. Essentially, conflict theory focuses on the various struggles between individuals and groups as a product of power variation (Lilly, Cullen, & Ball, 2015). While conflict theorists maintain individualized beliefs about crime, there is a centralized theme in that capitalism is a significant motivator of criminal behavior. Prior to the popularity of conflict theories, Marx and Engels (1848/1992) expressed their concerns over the reduction of social solidarity throughout society (Lilly et al., 2015). They argued that crime, was the result of this decline, and that the only way to reduce crime was by regaining social solidarity (Lilly…

In his book titles, Managing Conflict in the Church, David Kale lists five levels of conflict; 1”Awareness of Differences, Confronting the Differences, Power Struggles, Fight or Flight, and Intractable.” As I offer the following explanation, I’ll attempt to do so parallel to Prochaska and DiClemente’s six stage transtheoretical model of change. This model consists of the following levels or stages of change, pre-contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance and relapse. Kale describes the Awareness of Differences level as when people first become aware that there are differences of opinion, or people have different perspectives on an issue but there has been no communication directly regarding the differences.…

I perceived “Multiple Perspectives” as the most important topic that I have learned thus far. After becoming familiar with the multiple perspectives approach and its benefits, I have applied some of the perspectives to my daily work practice. The most valuable part about using a multiple perspectives approach is to limit my personal biases and beliefs in each of my cases. I particularly use the conflict perspective to analyze and find possible solutions for my clients. For instance, last week I helped one of my clients (Foster Parent) identify a pro-social activity to help her with the emotional stress that she is going through as one of her foster child was returning with her biological parents.…

Conflict Theory in this reading would be how the teachers are treating the Saints in a much different way than the Roughnecks because of the powerful and wealthy background the Saints have. The Saints are being viewed as the “good” kids because people just assume that just because they have a good background, they would be raised the way society thinks would be the best for a kid. But because the way they are treated differently it affects their future. On one side the teacher is encouraging the Saints to do better and that they have the ability to do better. So the teachers would give them a second chance when they fail a test.…
