Conflict Styles: Avoiding, And Collaboration

My conflict styles were determined to be “avoiding” and “collaboration”, which are the direct opposites of each other. The characteristics of an avoider is unassertive and uncooperative, this conflict style has a low goal orientation, and low relationship preservation. The avoider does not pursue his own concerns or the concerns of others. Avoidance masquerades as diplomacy, however, it actually is withdrawing, until a better time, or when the avoider is forced to deal with the issue.
The Characteristics of the collaborator is completely different from that of the avoider, the collaborator has high goal orientation and high relationship preservation. The collaborator will work with the other person to find a solution, which satisfies the concerns of both parties, the collaborator, unlike the avoider, the collaborator will dig into the situation to find the underlying concerns.
It would seem, one person would not have these opposite methods of dealing with conflict, however my examples of conflicts between family, a co-worker and a client will explain, how I can hold both

Our call volume would be high, due to west coast callers, 1 of the reps would turn her phone off, this meant the other 4, would get calls back to back, I went to her an explained I knew what she was doing, I offered her longer breaks, if she was frustrated, tired, or just needed a moment (some of the customers, would cuss, yell or just be rude).
