Conflict Management: Conflict Resolution In The Workplace

Introduction
Conflict in the workplace is unavoidable; if handled properly, conflicts can be beneficial to the organization. This report will discuss an issue that happened between Jane and Robert; why it happened; how long the conflict lasted and how the conflict was resolved.

The problem
Jane received an internal message from Robert that was meant for another employee. The message was referring to Jane’s attitude at work and her inability to come to work on time. Jane on to confront Robert about the message and the fact that he was ‘gossiping’ to other employees about her and insisted that he shows the other text messages. Robert declined to show her the text messages, informing her that she was not the boss. Jane decided to come to me and inform me of the situation.
After an initial investigation, it was found that her constant lateness was the gossip of the office. Some of the rumors around the office were that she was interviewing with other companies or that she was receiving special favors from management. In fact some employees had complained to their managers and were wondering if any disciplinary actions will be taken against her. These rumors have been going on for about a month prior to the instant message being sent to Jane.

In this meeting, I informed the managers that I was aware of Jane’s change of scheduled and have actually approved it. Second, a meeting was set up between Robert and HR to discuss the instant messages. After informing Robert that Jane’s change of scheduled was approved, he was then strongly reproved due the information found in the messages. He was also advised to issue an apology to Jane for the role he played in slandering her name. Lastly, some managers had conversations with concerned employees in order to inform them of the decision
