The restaurant generates a consciously shifting site for ethnic diversity in the post-industrial city of Pittsburgh, as it has staged the only Afghan, Iranian, North Korean, Palestinian and Venezuelan restaurants the city has ever seen. Conflict Kitchen uses the social relations of food to involve people into discussions about nations, cultures, traditions and people that they might know little about outside of the polarizing rhetorical government politics and the narrow lens of public media.
