Eight percent of recorded human history is peaceful, it is worth asking how much of unrecorded human history was peaceful. Since the creation of man, humans have been at war with one another. Our wars have been violent and quiet, however, almost always present. Conflict is observable within every niche of humanity, even within the walls of a classroom it is possible to find evidence of conflict, yet humans have not found a way to deal with it better than war.
The history of conflict stretches as far back as the beginning of humanity and can be observed in many authors writing. Within a classroom of students who have seemingly no power it is still possible to see conflict. The children argue about who the real evil character is in an ancient epic. They have no reason for the argument other than to prove that they are right and therefore, better. It is noteworthy that these children at least recognize that war is not the only tool and are capable of using words and logic to come to a conclusion. William Golding author of Lord of the Flies supports this idea in his novel about a group of little boys left in isolation to form their own new world, yet the still create conflicts and end up dealing with such conflicts by means of war. These boys fall into complete tohubohu. These children want to be right for a different reason than the students. For the boys on the island winning the conflict meant ruling over the island. Humans have the basic want to be right and be in power over others and most people are willing to overcome conflict to get there, the trouble arises when people default to war to solve the …show more content…
In first world society conflict has been dealt with in one way; war. There are others ways to deal with conflict, while it is possible to use words to neutralize any issues; I personally like the idea of using a whole different philosophy to greatly reduce the amount of conflict in everyday life.For example, a good philosophy that people are flooding to is the Ubuntu philosophy. This philosophy is about human kindness and working together. It relies on everyone doing their fair share. It has proven that it can work and better yet there is very little conflict. People do what is required of them and move on. It does away with the idea of one person having more power than others. Without anyone being “in power” there is much less conflict because no one is fighting for it. The Ubuntu philosophy is being adopted globally; within a classroom of students teachers are already trying to push this philosophy the Ubuntu life really does seem nice because all the work and power is shared by everyone.
