Such as the novel “The Last Sister” which is based on the conflict during the Cherokee War in the backcountry of South Carolina. The main character of the novel is victim of an attack on her family by a fellow Back countryman, named Donald Campbell. The book touches on the conflict between the Cherokee and colonist, the British forts located in the Backcountry/ Cherokee territory and the general lack of Law and order in the Backcountry. In the novel Donald Campbell attacks the Blair Family because her father knew that Donald Campbell was responsible on several attacks on the Estatoe, where he and serval men raped the women of the Cherokee tribe. Donald Campbell killed her father to prevent him for telling anyone about this incident. The character Donald Campbell sheds light on realistic events that occurred in the southern backcountry within the chaos of the Cherokee war the backcountry neighbor would attack other back countrymen/countrywomen. Also this novel sheds light to the British forts located in the backcountry. According to Cann, in Turning Point, the forts were built quickly by settlers who feared Native American attacks. They were small, would contain a house and some small buildings. During the Cherokee war theses forts where places where settlers would flee for protection or for seeking to report crimes. The backcountry was not regulated for the most part so until the regulator movement, the backcountry settlers would travel to the forts that would normally a military official, so settlers could report crimes to theses officials.
