The story of Charlotte’s Web takes place in Somerset County. Wilbur was the runt of eleven piglets that were born in the spring. He was saved from an early demise by a young girl name Fern. Wilbur was then given to Fern and she raised him as her own. As Wilbur began to grow, a decision was made to put him in the barn with the other animals. It was here that he met and quickly became friends with Charlotte the spider. Wilbur saved Charlotte from the wrath of Fern’s brother Avery. He was then informed by Templeton the rat that he would soon be killed in time for Christmas. In return for Wilbur’s act heroism, Charlotte wrote adjectives in her web that were used to describe Wilbur and save his life. The book ends in an unexpected plot …show more content…
This novel depicts three themes: friendship, heroism and the love of animals. This novel paper consists of different activities that are based on the novel Charlotte’s Web. These activities are used to meet the various learning objectives of multiple subjects for a period of one week. Each activity helps students to critically analyze the novel so that they can have a better understanding the concept of the novel. Targeted Grade Level The combined themes of friendship, heroism, and love of animals along with brief chapters, large print, pictures and age appropriate vocabulary makes this the perfect contemporary novel for students in upper primary to junior high school (grades 4 to 7). Description of the Activity: This activity game can be used as a culminating activity that can be played individually or in groups. The after reading activity spinner consists of four questions and three commanding statements that focuses on the setting, main characters, timeline of events, problem, resolution and ending of the story. The arrow in the middle of the spinner is spun by the teacher. Whatever question or statement the arrow lands on the student(s) will have two minutes to give a response. If the student gives the incorrect answer the question is passed on to another student. This process is repeated until all the questions have been answered correctly.
