Simon was an outcast on the island. His knowledge and intellectuality confused the boys. Simon was the only child who comprehended that the beast was within each boy. Chapters eight and nine of Lord of the Flies fixated upon Simon’s true individuality. He envisioned the pierced sow’s head speaking to him. The pig's head confirmed Simon's belief that the beast was not a literal figure. Nonetheless, no other child agreed with Simon's logic. When Simon attempted to inform the boys of his observation, the boys were too frenzied and hysterical to recognize him. Ultimately, the pure Simon was slaughtered by the boys savage instinct to hunt and attack.
