Confirmation Narrative

Improved Essays
The day has finally arrived, Confirmation is a large Mass. My whole family, my sponsor, and my grandparents on both sides. I had to sit up front, wear a robe, and walk up together as a class. The archbishop joined us and preached us. The teachers announced my classes names, and we had to say present. He called us up one by with my sponsor. He placed his hand on my head and gave me a blessing. My sponsor placed her hand on my right shoulder, and my confirmation name on my other shoulder. After the blessings were given, we took communion. After confirmation services, we had to take a picture with the archbishop. After we did the class pictures, the photographer took a picture of the kids from Guttenberg, Garnavillo, and North Buena Vista. My

“And when he had said this, he breathed on them, and said to them, receive the Holy Spirit” (John 20:22). As my Confirmation date comes closer, I am not only preparing myself to take in the Holy Spirit, but I am also getting ready to take on the responsibilities of being a full grown Catholic. Although I am nervous, I am excited to find out what God’s plan is for me in the future. My sponsor Catie Hartley has helped me strengthen my bonds with God and the Church throughout the past years. I refrain from making hasty decisions, a trait that’s made it easier to manage time and keep my life organized. It’s not that I don’t enjoy some spontaneity, just that I’ve had experience with faulty planning. I like to consider as many details and possible outcomes of a situation before making a decision; in fact, I believe it’s my best characteristic. Thinking things through allows me to make sound, satisfying choices in both my academic and social life. It is a practice that has saved me from careless mistakes on math tests and kept my activities.…

My project consisted of attending a worship service different than that my own. I chose to follow a friend to a non-denominational sect of religion at a local church called, Iglesia Cristiana Misericordia in Laredo, Texas. This opportunity was chosen because I had made a promise to my friend to at least attend one service to see the differences between the traditional Roman Catholic services compared to this non-denominational service. At the very beginning I was rather apprehensive because of my original upbringing to Catholicism and the fact that I was attending service I was not familiar with.…

    1. Going into missions week I was filled with excitement. Going to the Dominican Republic is something I’ve looked forward to since my first year at Hickory Grove. Every year you hear how the DR changed the students who went. There is a famous saying among the people who have gone on the Dominican trip, “I went with intentions of changing/helping the people yet the people seemed to change/help me,” and that was something I was looking forward to experiencing.…

I remember the squeaky sound my new, white Mary-Jane shoes made as I walked down the aisle toward the altar. The sleeves of my first communion dress itched my shoulders as I anticipated eating the “body of Christ” bread for the first time. This ceremony, my first holy communion, was the last of my religious activities until high school. My father was a traditional Catholic while my mother was more open and spiritual. After my communion I realized I resonated more with my mother’s beliefs than my father’s.…

Stories “are lies in search of a higher truth” (Cloke). This paradoxical statement suggest that “fragments of the storyteller’s truth” extends beyond merely facts to fabricated ideas created in order to support a certain thought (Cloke). Controversies and conflicts exist when one storyteller’s truth clashes with another storyteller’s truth such as the situation in Success Academy. Through the attempts to rationalize their violent behavior towards children, Success Academy displays their own truth of what is perceived to be success; However, outside critics think otherwise since their understanding of successful teaching is different. Being able to understand the intentions of both Success Academy and critics allows resolution between two conflicting…

Both articles, “Meanings and Functions in Chinese Landscape Painting” and “Narrative Framing,” analyze how the composition of the paintings show a specific purpose. In the former article, it explains how the paintings were used to commemorate someone leaving a village or place work. They also have pieces that were to celebrate someone’s retirement or even their fantasy of retiring. Many of these pieces were painted by “amateurs,” otherwise known as scholar-amateurs. Who were full-time scholars who painted as a hobby for themselves and colleagues.…

Do you remember when you were a little kid and you had to climb on your counter-top to reach a cabinet? I remember it as if it was yesterday, maybe because it really was.
