Confidentiality In Social Work

Maintaining confidentiality is one of the Main responsibilities of service workers and they should respect the privacy of the clients regardless of any reason unless it is essential to provide emergency services or to protect the life of the client.in such situation it is essential to obtain informed consent from the client and should inform what information would be disclosed and to whom it would be. If the client is minor, social service worker should get informed consent from their guardian or any legal authorities of the client. Protecting the privacy of the clients is one of the ethical responsibilities of the social service worker. They should be aware of not disclosing the private information even with their coworkers though it is challenging nowadays to keep the information confidential because of electronic documentation of client’s information, as it can be seen by other coworkers or staffs in the agency.In such situation certain passwords should be used to lock and secure the information to make sure that an un authorized person cannot read the information. Social worker is not supposed to disclose the information unless law ask them to breach the confidentiality .When is necessary to disclose the information make sure that we obtained informed consent from the client before sharing information to a third party .
