According to The Free Dictionary by Farlex, confidence has several meaning depending
on the context it is used in. One of the meanings of the word confidence is the belief or the
conviction that the results will be favorable. The word confidence can also be used to mean the
belief in the effectiveness of a person’s abilities or in a person’s favorable acceptance by others.
The word originates from the 15 th Century and it was derived from two Latin words:
Confidentia and Confidentem. These words were, at that time, used to mean “Firmly trusting and

self-confidence and over-confidence. Self-confidence is a feeling of belief in one’s abilities,
judgment, and qualities. For example, there is a story told about one executive who was in deep
debt and he could not figure out a way out. Suppliers were demanding for payments and
creditors were closing in on him. He sat on a park bench as he wondered if there was anything he
