Have you ever had tension between you and your parents because you had different views on a situation? In the short stories of “Confetti Girl” and “Tortilla Sun” the children in both stories have a different view on a situation then their parents. The children believe one thing and feel a certain way. While their parents feel differently and have different thoughts and intention then their children think. With the parents having different point of views then their children during their situation, it causes tension between them.
In “Confetti Girl” the daughter has a different point of view on her father’s action than her Dad does, which causes tension between them. In the story, as the two of them are eating dinner the Dad asks about her

When the daughter comes down in the morning her mother tells her that funding came and that she’s going to be going to Costa Rica in a few days and be there for two months to finish her research, which would get allow her to graduate. This means the the girl would have to leave the new house she just moved into in California and go stay with her Grandmother-who she hasn’t seen in years-in New Mexico and would be leaving in a couple days. In this situation the girl is angry because she just moved and her mother was begging her to make friends before school started so she didn’t have to be the new girl. But now with the mother leaving for Costa Rica and her having to stay in New Mexico, she couldn’t do that anymore. She feels her mother is just leaving her and not caring how she feels about the situation and talking to her. But in the mother's point of view she thinks what she is doing is for the better. “‘Two. I’ll be home at the end of July. And after this I can finally graduate. Our lives will change then.’ She reached over and stroked my hair. ‘For the better’” (15). Since her going to Costa Rica will allow her to graduate, she thinks it's a great idea. Her graduating would mean she would get more opportunities and could get her a steady job, so she won’t have to move her and her daughter around as much. In “Confetti Girl” the dad thinks he’s helping the daughter and bonding with her when he goes to find the book she’s reading in class. But During this the daughter think he’s only and only cares about english and vocab and not her, which causes tension. And in “Tortilla Sun” the mom plans to go to Costa Rica because it will help her get her degree and believes that once she gets her degree life would be better for her and her child. But the daughter feels her mother is just leaving her and not taking her feels or thoughts into consideration. Everyone gets in fights and has tension between the and someone else becuase of their different points of view. But would you ever let you views get in the way so much that it breaks up you
