Firstly, In the story “Confetti Girl”, the main conflict is that her father is trying to force her to have the same interests as he does. She uses sarcasm to prove to her dad that she doesn’t want her dad to force his interests on her, for example when the author say, “It could have been super duper or super loop for all i care.”(paragraph 17). But, unfortunately the children think that the parents are selfish and trying to do the best for themselves only. In the “Confetti Girl” it is mentioned that, “He leaves the table to scan the bookshelves, and all of a sudden, i care about the tough beef, the mushy potatoes, and the cold beans, why should i eat when my own father has abandoned the food? Nothing is more important than his books and vocabulary words, he might say i matter but when he goes on a scavenger hunt for a book, i realize that i really don't”(paragraph 26). And in the “Tortilla Sun” we see this in the following paragraph, “mom leaned back against the counter and i sucked in a great gulp of air. “It is strange actually. I wasn’t expecting it but then at the last minute the funding came through.” she folded her arms across her waist. “I am going to costa rica to finish my research.” They have the desire to regain sense of closeness with their parents, they apparently have troubles connecting with their remaining
