Every family has their secrets, mysteries in which they become curious, but eventually feel betrayed by learning the hard cold truth. All her life Tandy’s parents would keep confidential information from her and her siblings, but now that they are dead there’s no one to keep them from it. While in Paris living in her dead grandma’s house Tandy discovers secret files on Katherine. Tandy is determined to find out what happen to her sister Katherine even if it could get her killed. Tandy Angel's realization of her sister's fake death shows an unexpected plot twist in Patterson’s Confession: The Paris Mysteries which ultimately convinces her that Katherine is not dead but alive.

“I walked to the table and put my hand on the box closest to me and turned it so that light fell on the label. A name had been written in marking pen. KATHERINE. My sister who had died” (Confession: The Paris Mysteries p.61). Uncle Jacob didn't want Tandy to find out the horrible truth about what her uncle Peter was up to with Katherine. But Tandy being the curious person she is went snooping around again in Katherine’s old files and this time Jacob wasn’t happy. “And the worst personally, was Jacob’s disappointment in me for filching that key” (Confession: The Paris Mysteries p.59). Caught the second time Tandy didn’t dare to give up on finding out what actually happened to her sister. “Please. Believe me, this is no joke. It’s me, Tandy. Katherine, your sister. I’m alive, I'm really alive” (Confession: The Paris Mysteries p.241). When Tandy discovers Katherine is alive she didn't believe it at first because the accident made it seem like she passed away. “Really? Was I going crazy? My eyes burned and my head hurt and I thought I would throw up. This had to be the worst kind of hoax” (Confession: The Paris Mysteries p.242). After a few minutes on Katherine trying to convince her that she was her sister Tandy eventually believed her. Their encounter was very dangerous in itself because Katherine was being watched by their evil uncle
