I think that the recent shooting prompted such a swift action because the shooter had a connection to the Confederate flag. The shooter, Dylan Roof, was discovered to have a website containing his connections to the flag, “Along with racist rants, it showed Roof posing with Confederate symbols, including the battle flag.”. This connection could have caused the removal of the Confederate flag from South Carolina’s State House because people could connect Roof’s action and his personal view of the Confederate flag to be driven by racism. Another reason the shooting prompted such a swift action might be because one out of the nine victims was Senator Clementa Pinckney.
